A sensação é a de ter uma casa própria aconchegante para morar, para voltar todos os dias depois de horas e horas de luta na rua. Manter um site no ar por longos 15 anos é coisa que a gente nem consegue acreditar direito. Tudo começou em 2011, quando os blogs ainda eram a moda e as redes sociais não tinham tomado a tração que têm hoje, a ponto de assassinar nossa vida virtual fora dos formatos controlados a mão de ferro pelas big techs (hello, Google!).
FAROFAFÁ nasceu em 13 de maio de 2011, muito pelo estímulo do comparsa Eduardo Nunomura (como ele já contou aqui), que se empolgava com a ideia da criação de um “site do PAS” ou algo parecido. Com o apoio valioso dos queridos Guto Ruocco e Juliana Amaral, começamos a colocar a ideia em pé. Conversa vai, conversa vem, foi nascendo o projeto de jornalismo cultural popular brasileiro que receberia no nome FAROFAFÁ, em tributo simultâneo e cruzado ao hit popde Mauro Celso em 1975 e à musa Fafá de Belém.
FAROFAFÁ queria ser de Belém, do Pará, do interior paulista (onde nasceu e morreu o breve Mauro Celso), do Paranapanema, do Paraná, da Paraíba, do Brasil. Queria, como uma farofa bem feita à qual cada um acrescenta os ingredientes de sua preferência, formar um painel jornalístico democrático e sem preconceitos (ou pelo menos driblando os próprios preconceitos) sobre a música e a cultura do Brasil (embora sem se deter apenas a elas).
Era um momento de muitas transformações sociais e culturais, quando muito se falava sobre ascensão da “nova classe C”, tecnobrega, funk carioca, redes sociais, pirataria, mp3, sertanejo universitário – sobre tudo que mais adiante desaguaria (não raro com a força de uma barragem rompida em Brumadinho) em streaming, panelaço, golpe de Estado, influenciadores digitais, escalada neofascista, inteligência artificial etc. etc. etc.
Parceiro desde o primeiro momento, Jotabê Medeiros lembra que se engajou efetivamente um pouco mais adiante, e o fez trazendo, entre inúmeras qualidades, uma cobertura intensiva sobre política cultural que estava na semente de FAROFAFÁ, mas não tinha germinado até então. Um pouco mais à frente, tivemos a alegria de receber a companhia de Zema Ribeiro, diretamente do Maranhão, enriquecendo nosso projeto com uma abordagem nordestina (ou melhor, não-sudestina) que dez entre dez veículos localizados no chamado eixo Rio-São Paulo se recusam a incorporar ainda em 2026.
Com tão pouca gente e tão poucos recursos, acumulamos nestes 15 anos mais de 5.000 textos publicados, nossos e de um elenco formidável de colaboradores, todos engajados (para nosso orgulho e desconforto) de modo 100% diletante. Ele é um jornalista e especialista na cobertura literária que também edita livros ao lado de Joana Monteleone na Alameda Editorial, e vem ajudando a demarcar um momento de novo fôlego e fogo – cujo reflexo tem aparecido nas postagens diárias que ocupam o site e as redes sociais de FAROFAFÁ neste primeiro semestre de 2026 – entre outras novidades que estão a caminho.
