No entanto, pela sua qualidade, vão ficar para sempre”.
Ajudam a perpetuar essa percepção do carioca Alvaro Costa e Silva, cronista da Folha de S.Paulo, os lançamentos de coletâneas de crônicas, incluindo seu recém-lançado e muito bem-vindo “No turbilhão da galeria — As crônicas do Marechal” (Arquipélago, 2026, 190 p.), com o subtítulo a evocar seu apelido, originado da coincidência de o jornalista ter o mesmo sobrenome do ditador brasileiro.
“O verdadeiro Marechal”, teria dito Bira Presidente (1937-2025), fundador do bloco carnavalesco Cacique de Ramos e do grupo Fundo de Quintal, ao ser entrevistado por ele. A (lenda sobre a) origem do apelido é evocada pelo historiador Luiz Antonio Simas em “Bebedor de livros e leitor da cidade”, a apresentação da obra (colega de condomínio impresso, Ruy Castro assina a quarta capa).
O livro reúne crônicas publicadas entre 2015 e 2025 reafirmando a grandeza e elegância de Marechal, dos melhores textos de nossa imprensa, ele, autor do “Dicionário amoroso do Rio de Janeiro”, enciclopédia viva em seu passeio cotidiano pelas ruas e suas matérias-primas, entre artes, futebol, política e o que mais pintar.
Marechal nos torna íntimos de personagens, biroscas e esquinas, entre nomes para lá de conhecidos — Beth Carvalho (1946-2019), Cartola (1908-1980), Clarice Lispector (1920-1977), Jacob do Bandolim (1918-1969), Pelé (1940-2022), Pixinguinha (1897-1973) e Tom Jobim (1927-1994), para citar uns poucos — a outros menos, mas não menos importantes, por exemplo o Cabo Laurindo, “tocador de cuíca em Mangueira, sempre lutou pela justiça social desde seus tempos no sindicato da estiva. Mulherengo, envolveu-se num triângulo amoroso com Zizica e Conceição, o qual teria lhe custado a vida, conforme Noel Rosa [1910-1937] narra no samba “Triste cuíca”. Era felizmente rebate falso. Tanto que, em 1943, partiu com a FEB para o front da Itália, onde passou frio e comeu na lata”, como conta Marechal, para lembrar adiante que o personagem inspirou outras músicas e, naquele mesmo ano, no filme “Samba em Berlim”, “foi interpretado por ninguém menos que Geraldo Pereira [1918-1955]”.
O domínio de certos temas, notadamente o samba, invariavelmente nos leva a crer que Marechal é mais velho do que realmente é — nasceu em 1962. Mas engana-se quem pensa, a julgar pelos trechos e assuntos escolhidos para esta resenha, que só de passado vivem suas crônicas. Ao longo dos 10 anos da seleta apresentada, Alvaro Costa e Silva não fechou os olhos para os desmandos do neofascista Jair Bolsonaro na presidência da república e de seus conterrâneos à frente do Executivo estadual, de onde não raro saem para trás das grades.
Em nota, o autor explica que o título do livro foi “chupado” do samba “Camisa amarela”, de Ary Barroso [1903-1964], que considera “uma crônica perfeita”. Aqui e no primeiro parágrafo deste texto Marechal não está falando de si mesmo, por motivos óbvios. Mas o resenhista pode: com “No turbilhão da galeria” suas crônicas perfeitas, “pela sua qualidade, vão ficar para sempre”. O desafio é lançar periodicamente uma coletânea dessas, por via das dúvidas.
