Professor aposentado da Escola de Comunicações e Artes da Universidade de São Paulo (ECA/USP), B. Kucinski (como Bernardo Kucinski assina suas obras de ficção), após sua imensa contribuição na área, estreou na ficção em 2011 com “K — Relato de uma busca”, originalmente publicado pela editora Expressão Popular (depois reeditado pela CosacNaify e Companhia das Letras).
Ali, já dizia a que veio, tendo sido finalista dos prêmios São Paulo de Literatura e Portugal Telecom no ano seguinte. À estreia seguiram-se “Você vai voltar pra mim e outros contos” (CosacNaify, 2014), “Alice — Não mais que de repente” (Rocco, 2014) e “Os visitantes” (Companhia das Letras, 2016). Todos têm como pano de fundo a ditadura militar brasileira (1964-1985) e podem ser classificados como autoficções.
A estreia é baseada na história da irmã do escritor, Ana Rosa Kucinski (1942-1974), professora do departamento de Química da USP, integrante da Aliança Libertadora Nacional (ALN), sequestrada e assassinada pelo regime dos generais em 1974.
Após sua imensa contribuição em sala de aula, Kucinski elabora traumas e, se valendo de suas próprias memórias, segue dando valiosa contribuição para que possamos refletir sobre a história brasileira mais ou menos recente.
No novo “O ateliê” (Alameda, 2026) — que será lançado no próximo dia 8 de agosto e FAROFAFÁ leu antes — Kucinski costura acontecimentos políticos desde o golpe que cassou a presidenta Dilma Rousseff, a prisão do ex-presidente de origem operária (como se refere a Lula ao longo da obra), a eleição e o mandato de Jair Bolsonaro, a pandemia de covid-19.
Em meio a personagens reais e inspirados em, o próprio Kucinski torna-se um estudante de Letras, o narrador em primeira pessoa, que aspira a estrear na ficção, após passar a frequentar um sarau semanal de idosos, a maioria jornalistas e ex-militantes políticos, que, entre taças de vinho, debates sobre música, literatura e pintura (Jorge Arízio, o anfitrião, é pintor) e lamentos pelos males da idade, repassam a vida política do país — qual o autor real, os colegas de tertúlia também tinham passado pela ditadura e se viam incrédulos, atravessando a história se repetindo como tragédia (e farsa), como apregoou Karl Marx (1818-1883), um dos tantos autores citados por Kucinski, longe de pender a qualquer tipo de academicismo ou pedantismo. Como diz o narrador: ficção não basta para se fazer um escritor, é preciso ler história, filosofia, política e economia.
O domínio destes temas é um dos elementos que tornam Kucinski o grande escritor que é: sua trama prende a atenção do leitor desde a primeira página justamente por não ficar apenas girando ao redor do próprio umbigo, como parte da geração a que pertence o narrador, muitos dos quais achando que a vida em smartphones e redes sociais é o bastante, vivendo ainda sob as asas (e tetos) dos pais, sem interesse ou capacidade de pensar sobre os rumos (políticos) do país ou da própria vida.
Os velhinhos de sua patota — uns chamados pelos nomes, outros facilmente reconhecíveis pelo leitor mais atento — indignam-se, xingam e dão sua contribuição para a compreensão da história brasileira recente, de democracia frágil e infelizmente ainda não consolidada.
Às vésperas de mais uma eleição importante e plebiscitária, o novo livro de Kucinski toca em feridas brasileiras ainda abertas — não é à toa o subtítulo “Crônica de tempos intranquilos” —, em prosa instigante e deliciosa.
