A civilidade virou demodé. A ideia de cidadãos que respeitam certas formalidades e condutas para demonstrar mútuo respeito e consideração entre si vale muito pouco. A concepção de um cenário em que instituições, organizações e Estado atuam politicamente só existe formalmente. A bola da vez é A Sociedade Incivil (Editora Vozes), nominado em livro pelo sociólogo e jornalista Muniz Sodré. Nessa nova formatação social, o capitalismo financeiro é quem manda, a política representativa representa apenas interesses privados e há uma mídia sem povo, controlada por poucas corporações tecnológicas (Google, Facebook, Apple etc.) e impulsionada por algoritmos e uma indecifrável inteligência artificial.
Professor emérito da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro e ex-presidente da Fundação Biblioteca Nacional (2009-2011), Muniz Sodré sobreviveu à covid-19, depois de mais de um mês internado, em abril e maio de 2020. Ele chegou a respirar com auxílio de aparelhos. Autor de cerca de 40 livros de comunicação e cultura, o sociólogo lançou uma obra que faz, no mínimo, uma síntese de suas contribuições ao longo de mais de cinco décadas de pesquisa. Hoje, ele tem 79 anos. Em A Sociedade Incivil, com subtítulo Mídia, Iliberalismo e Finanças, o autor apresenta como a comunicação deixou de ocupar o espaço de uma utopia cultural para hoje se tornar instrumento de interesses financistas.
Sodré sugere que vivemos um período de “bios midiático” ou “bios virtual”, em que a realidade é “imaginarizada” e não necessariamente vivida e disputada pelos cidadãos. E é aí que corremos riscos, enquanto sociedade. “Se antes o Estado totalitário pretendia enraizar-se na vida da nação, reunificando (contra o liberalismo) corpo e espírito, agora é a mídia que se enraiza culturalmente na vida social”, escreve. A imprensa burguesa cumpria esse papel ao se arvorar defensora da liberdade de expressão e das “conversas civis”. Mas, ato contínuo, essa mesma imprensa foi a primeira a ser apropriada por interesses do capitalismo financeiro e agora experimenta, na visão deste resenhista, do seu próprio veneno.
Em uma nova configuração em que a fala parece ter sido “liberada” a todos, a própria fala se torna uma espécie de droga a ser consumida. Na sociedade incivil preconizada por Sodré, o amor perde espaço para o ódio, que assume, inclusive, uma forma social. “O fenômeno contamina novas formas de vida inscritas na realidade histórica, porém é hoje mais visível nos desdobramentos tecnológicos da rede eletrônica, onde se viraliza o delírio extremista, com ataques ofensivos e antidemocráticos”, descreve. Pense em Bolsonaro e seu exército de seguidores que emergiu do esgoto social em que se despreza a sociedade civil.
O sociólogo faz uma apurada leitura do mundo contemporâneo, que ajuda a compreender a armadilha em que a humanidade se meteu. O que prevalece, nos dias atuais, é a hegemonia do capitalismo financeiro, a cultura algorítmica (premida por likes e repetições) e o biopoder, onde as relações entre povo e Estado são cada vez mais frágeis, se não inexistentes. O controle social ocorre, assim, por meio dessa sociedade incivil. Soluções? Muniz Sodré fica devendo, mas só a tomada da consciência que ele proporciona com seu livro já é uma tremenda contribuição.
