Quatro semanas após a estreia de Emergência Radioativa na Netflix, período em que a série se manteve no Top 10 global (7º mundial e 2º no Brasil neste 15 de abril), já dá para analisar a produção da Gullane distante do calor das redes sociais e com a poeira radiológica devidamente baixada. Primeiro, vale destacar a raridade que é uma produção nacional figurar entre as não-inglesas mais assistidas do mundo e que esteja liderando o ranking em países latinos como Argentina, Bolívia, Chile, México, Peru, Paraguai e Uruguai.
Se por um lado Emergência Radioativa se apresenta como um “Chernobyl à brasileira”, por outro, ela revela as tensões de fazer com que um trauma nacional se transforme em um produto de consumo global. O valor da obra não reside na sua precisão documental, onde sabidamente tropeça, mas por sua capacidade de romper com um “silenciamento discursivo“, como bem apontou a pesquisadora Célia Helena Vasconcelos em torno do maior acidente radiológico do mundo fora de uma usina nuclear.
A série da Netflix opera em uma zona cinzenta. Ao criar personagens amálgamas e vilões burocráticos, a produção opta por sacrificar a nuance histórica – e documental – em favor de uma narrativa mais palatável ao gosto de todos. É o risco do “contrato de ficção” absolutamente compreensível. Para os jovens, que desconhecem os detalhes do episódio dramático de 1987, a gravidade do fato é transmitida com eficácia, ainda que as peças do tabuleiro político tenham sido manipuladas para gerar clímax. Para os mais velhos, muitos já nem se lembra mais de como tudo parecia perdido.
O pecado não é a invenção em si, mas o que a produção brasileira escolhe omitir. Outras produções ficcionais baseadas em fatos reais acabam por trilhar o perigoso caminho da distorção proposital. A série The Crown foi criticada por historiadores por sugerir que o então príncipe Charles havia tentado forçar a abdicação da Rainha Elizabeth, porém sem base documental. Aqui o limite era a difamação e a ficção deixou de ser arte para virar um boato de luxo.
Em Emergência Radioativa, o poder público é unidimensional. O governador é o insensível da vez, age pensando mais nas urnas do que na população. Mas a imprensa local não gostou do que viu. O político Irapuan Costa Junior (MDB) chamou de desrespeito a forma como retrataram o governador Henrique Santillo, um médico. O risco da produção ficcional é que o horror do Césio-137 não foi apenas fruto da vilania individual, mas de um vácuo institucional e de uma ignorância que atravessa todas as camadas da sociedade.
A maior vitória de Emergência Radioativa não ocorreu na tela, mas fora dela. É no mínimo risível que somente após a repercussão mundial da série, o governo de Goiás (ainda sob mando de Ronaldo Caiado (PSD), agora “presidenciável”) decidiu reajustar a pensão especial das vítimas do acidente nuclear e publicar novos materiais sobre o episódio. Aqui a arte cumpre um papel que o livro oficial do governo jamais conseguiria: ela torna a dor inegável. A série, de fato, trocou o nome da menina Leide das Neves por “Celeste” e filmou o cerrado em Osasco (SP). E, literalmente, sumiu com centenas de médicos que lutaram pela sobrevivência das vítimas, resumindo-os a quatro ou cinco conscientes e heróicos profissionais da saúde. Mas ninguém pode dizer que a produção da Gullane retirou o Césio-137 da nota de rodapé da história e o colocou no centro da sala de jantar brasileira.
A série é, em última análise, um exercício de memória imperfeita. Ela nos lembra que o drama de Goiânia é uma ferida aberta que a ficção tenta fechar com os curativos errados. Mas que, ao fazê-lo, nos obriga a olhar para a cicatriz. Para quem quer entender como o Brasil processa seus traumas 40 anos depois, Emergência Radioativa, é um ponto de partida incômodo, mas necessário. Não se trata de heróis ou vilões, mas de um País que ainda brilha no escuro, tateando em busca de uma narrativa que faça jus ao silêncio daqueles que o tempo tentou apagar.
