Auto-retrato (Sobrevivente do Câncer), trabalho de 2021 da cartunista norte-americana radicada na França Aline Kominsky-Crumb

Morreu nesta terça-feira, 29, na França, a cartunista Aline Kominsky-Crumb, uma das pioneiras dos quadrinhos underground no mundo. Ela era uma referência da arte dos quadrinhos e foi colaboradora da revista brasileira Piauí, além de ter obras publicadas por editoras daqui, como a Companhia das Letras. Casada com o papa do underground, Robert Crumb, a artista nasceu Aline Goldsmith em Long Island, Nova York, em 1948. Após estudar na Universidade de Tucson, no Arizona, ela se tornou, a partir de 1971, uma das primeiras colaboradoras da revista feminina Wimmen’s Comix, criando a série Twisted Sisters com Diane Noomin em 1976.

Foi também no início dos anos 1970 que ela conheceu Robert Crumb, com quem teve uma filha, Sophie, que também se tornou cartunista, em 1981. Em 1991, a família toda se mudou para a França. Em fevereiro desde ano, os três abriram em Paris a exposição Sauve qui peut ! (Run for Your Life), o que significa Salve-se quem puder! (Sauve é o nome da cidade na França onde vive a família, e que significa “salve”, em francês, favorecendo o trocadilho).

Todos os artistas da família Crumb têm trabalhos em coleções de museus fundamentais, como o Brooklyn Museum e o MoMA, de Nova York, o Carnegie Museum of Art de Pittsburgh; e o Museum Ludwig de Colônia, Alemanha. Recentemente, analisando o que tinha sido sua carreira até aquele ponto, Aline afirmou: “Eu era uma pintora com graduação em Artes Visuais, e escolhi fazer coisas que pudessem ser lidas no banheiro”.

Nos anos 1980, Aline desenhou para a célebre antologia de quadrinhos Weirdo. Com seu trabalho, foi uma das primeiras a colocar a figura feminina no centro das narrativas dos quadrinhos, até então um meio predominantemente masculino. Ajudou a organizar exposições suas e do marido, e seu trabalho recheou páginas de publicações como Artforum, The New York Times, The New Yorker, Time Out New York, entre outros numerosos veículos do mundo todo. Recentemente, Aline tivera câncer, e a narrativa do diagnóstico e do tratamento passou a ser elaborada em seus quadrinhos. Ela considerava que tinha se curado.
