O Ministério da Cultura brasileiro divulgou uma nota condenando o tratamento dispensado ao cantor mineiro Milton Nascimento na entrega do Grammy 2025, no último final de semana.

Milton concorria ao prêmio com o disco Milton + Esperanza, na categoria Melhor Álbum de Jazz, e foi aos Estados Unidos para a cerimônia, mas foi abrigado na arquibancada da festa, enquanto sua parceira no disco, a cantora e contrabaixista Esperanza Spalding, protestava na mesa dos convidados com um cartaz reclamando um lugar para a “lenda viva” da MPB. “Esta lenda viva deveria estar sentada aqui”, dizia o cartaz com a imagem do cantor brasileiro, uma de suas maiores influências.

A equipe de Milton divulgou uma nota explicando a descortesia. “Quando questionados pela equipe de Esperanza, alegaram que ficariam nas mesas apenas os artistas que eles queriam no vídeo”, informou o comunicado. Para os assessores de Milton, o Grammy desconsiderou “não só toda a sua trajetória e prestígio em todo o mundo, como a sua idade avançada e a impossibilidade de subir e descer escadas”. Milton é vencedor do Grammy – ele levou o prêmio em 1998 na categoria de Melhor Álbum de Música Global. Em 2025, a vencedora foi a cantora Samara Joy, a mesma que tinha vencido o prêmio de Artista Revelação em 2023, superando a adversária brasileira Anitta.

A decisão da Academia de posicioná-lo em um local incompatível com sua trajetória, prestígio internacional e necessidades físicas demonstra falta de sensibilidade e respeito a um dos maiores nomes da música brasileira.

Milton Nascimento, ícone da cultura nacional, coleciona prêmios e reconhecimentos que atravessam gerações e fronteiras. Sua obra influenciou artistas em todo o mundo, elevando a música brasileira a patamares de excelência.

Com sua voz única e composições memoráveis, Milton seguirá sendo celebrado por aqueles que compreendem e respeitam sua imensa contribuição à música.

Trajetória

Milton Nascimento é um dos maiores ícones da música brasileira, reconhecido mundialmente por sua voz singular e por suas composições marcantes. Nascido no Rio de Janeiro em 26 de outubro de 1942, foi criado em Três Pontas, Minas Gerais, onde desenvolveu sua paixão pela música. Ganhou notoriedade nacional em 1967, quando a canção Travessia, composta em parceria com Fernando Brant, conquistou o segundo lugar no Festival Internacional da Canção.

Ao longo de sua carreira, Milton lançou 34 álbuns e recebeu diversas premiações, incluindo cinco Grammys, consolidando-se como uma referência na MPB. Sua obra transita por diferentes estilos e gerações, sendo interpretada por grandes nomes da música brasileira e internacional, como Elis Regina, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Mercedes Sosa, Pat Metheny e Duran Duran.
